Best Breweries in Mammoth

Distant Brewing (Mammoth Lakes, CA)

Distant Brewing is relatively new to the area, as we opened our doors in December of 2019. But we’re really not all that new to the scene. You may remember us as Black Doubt Brewing, which opened in December of 2015. Black Doubt spent 4 years in a small space inside of strip mall, but we built a reputation for some great beers at reasonable prices. Our location was a hang-out for locals and tourists alike, and after 3 years in our small location, we decided it was time to expand on our project. Distant Brewing started mid-2018 as an idea to build a brand new space in Mammoth Lakes, after we secured our lease on the old police station, we began a full tear-down of the building and started building up from scratch in December of 2018.

We are extremely proud of what we were able to build here at Distant Brewing. Our brand new 10 barrel brew-house sits next to our old 4 barrel brew-house which gives us the opportunity to brew two batches of beer at once, not a lot of breweries can say that. We plan on having 27 different taps to showcase our extreme range of brews and can’t wait for you to try them all! Distant Brewing is one of the best breweries in Mammoth Lakes! (<– that’s strictly for the SEO)

Mammoth Brewing Company (Mammoth Lakes, CA)

Mammoth Brewing is the elder statesmen of the Eastern Sierra beer scene, they are the pioneer for each and every other brewery on this list and frankly, we all strive to have the success that they have had over the years!  Mammoth Brewing has a great line-up of year-round beers as well as a nice mix of seasonals on tap at all times.  Their tasting room has an amazing view of the Eastern Sierras and its location next to The Village makes it a must stop for anyone coming to Mammoth.

June Lake Brewing (June Lake, CA)

June Lake Brewing is our neighbor just to the North, and about a 20 minute drive out of town. JLB recently got a new head-brewer who has really upped this breweries beer game.  They now make excellent hazy IPAs, have started doing sour beers and their line-up of locals favorites is always a must try for any beer snob heading to the Eastern Sierras.

Mountain Rambler Brewing (Bishop, CA)

Mountain Rambler is our neighbor to the south-east down in Bishop, CA.  We try to always make a stop in to the Rambler on our way down south as the Bishop boys make some great beers in some styles that we have yet to even tackle.  Mountain Rambler has won several awards for their creations such as the Venusian Blonde.

Shelter Distilling (Mammoth Lakes, CA)

Shelter Distilling is also fairly new, just having had their two year anniversary party in early 2020. Shelter mainly focusing on the distilling aspect but they have up to three house-made beers at any one time, and a cider.  Shelter’s beer selections vary greatly depending on the seasons, they strive to make unique creations that showcase local ingredients and styles.  Not to mention their location is amazing and is a must stop for anyone interested in any sort of beverages while in Mammoth.
